Yvon Lambert was quite a scorer before he established himself as a rugged winger throughout a remarkable NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres. A 50-goal man with Drummondville as a junior, Lambert repeated the feat in his second season with the AHL’s Nova Scotia Voyageurs. Selected 40th overall by Detroit in the 1970 entry draft, Lambert made his pro debut and won the Turner Cup with the IHL’s Port Huron Flags. Acquired by the Canadiens in the reverse draft, he won the AHL scoring title with Nova Scotia in 1972-73. Lambert’s 104 points edged out fellow 100-point linemates Tony Featherstone and Morris Stefaniw to claim the John Sollenberg Memorial Trophy. He matched his 52 goals with 52 assists one year after helping the Voyageurs win the Calder Cup. This huge two-handle copper cup has "THE JOHN SOLLENBERGER MEMORIAL TROPHY" engraved above an AHL logo crest affixed to the upper part of the bowl. The rounded bottom of the bowl is engraved "AWARDED ANNUALLY TO THE LEADING SCORER IN THE AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE, YVON LAMBERT, NOVA SCOTIA VOYAGEURS, 1972 - 73". This fantastic AHL award stands approximately 23" tall, from the top of the right-handed-shooting player’s head on the statue atop the trophy’s fixed lid, to the bottom edge of the 4 ½" tall black-painted wood base. An original Balfour sticker remains in place on the underside of the base, which has four well-worn circular felt pads. This distinctive and substantial AHL individual award comes along with Yvon Lambert’s signed letter of authenticity.
