Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
If ever it could be said that a player was bigger than the game, Howie Morenz would be that player. Morenz played 11 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, one with Chicago and half a year with New York before returning to Montreal where he played until he broke his leg in 1937 during a game. He died six weeks later. A three-time Hart trophy winner as the NHLs Most Valuable Player, Morenz had a career total of 270 goals and was honored as one of the first 12 men to be inducted into Hockey's Hall of Fame in 1945. This scarce iron-on transfer pictures Howie in his Montreal Canadiens uniform and he is identified below with the years framing his life listed as 1902-1937 in red. Measures 3 x 7 inches and has been preserved in excellent and unused condition.
