Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
There was professional hockey in St. Louis well before the NHL's 1967 expansion brought the Midwest city the Blues. The original Ottawa Senators moved there and played the 1933-34 season as the St. Louis Eagles before the franchise folded. They were preceded by the St. Louis Flyers of the American Hockey Association, who played in the St. Louis Arena from 1928 to 1942, when the league disbanded because of World War II. The team was revived in the AHL two years later and the Flyers continued play for nine seasons, through 1952-53. This collection of four team photos includes two from the team's AHA days, 1937-38 and 1938-39, and two more from the AHL, the 1945-46 edition of the Flyers as well as the 1946-47 team.
The beauty of the rare photos featured in this incredible collection of hockey memorabilia is not solely in the eye of the beholder, rather it’s obvious to one and all.
