This vintage photo montage from the early days of organized hockey is a rare find indeed. Note the impressive artistic detail surrounding the individual photographs of this team representing Hawkesbury, Ontario. The players and administrators of the 1904-05 "Champions of the Lower Ottawa Valley" are presented in individual oval photographs, which are credited to "Browne & Co. Photographers". The detailed drawings throughout the presentation are the work of designer W.B. Browne, as credited in the lower right part of the 12" x 10" photo montage. The photo is studio-mounted onto its grey felt attached to cardboard backing, which measures approximately 20" x 16". Note the distinctive logo on the players' jerseys, which is also drawn between the photos of the team's executives at the top of the montage, and its similarity to the Montreal Canadiens' world renowned logo, and remember that the Canadiens weren't formed until five years later. A curious coincidence? Definitely worth looking into.
