Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Stunning panoramic photo from the early-1920s overflowing with beaming players from the Calgary Canadiens, Owen Sound Greys, Regina Pats and Winnipeg Tigers. The Memorial Cup competition dates back to 1919 when it was established to determine the top Junior team in Canada. Although this image is difficult to date, we can tell you that the Greys won the Memorial Cup in 1924 and 1927, with the Calgary Canadiens winning in 1926 and Regina Pats taking home the trophy in 1925. So pick a year! The vintage sepia tone photo has some waving to note but has been preserved in near-excellent condition over the years and comes housed in a vintage black wood frame with the four teams named on the verso in ancient pencil.
The beauty of the rare photos featured in this incredible collection of hockey memorabilia is not solely in the eye of the beholder, rather it’s obvious to one and all. The pages that follow are filled with incredible treasures such as original team photos of some of the earliest Stanley Cup champions that speak to the great and broad history of the game.
