Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Amazing seldom-seen creation pictures the men who brought New York its first-ever Stanley Cup championship in the spring of 1928. Photos include those of legends Bill and Bun Cook, Frank Boucher, Ching Johnson and coach Lester Patrick. This was the year that the 44-year old Patrick replaced injured goalie Lorne Chabot in the 2nd period of game 2 of the finals against the Maroons. Patrick helped the Blueshirts to an unlikely overtime victory and the Rangers, in just their second season in the NHL, went on to down Montreal 3 games to 2, with Boucher scoring both goals in the 2-1 clincher. Also of special note is that all five games were played in Montreal because the Barnum & Bailey Circus occupied Madison Square Garden. Other players pictured in this rarity are Taffy Abel, Murray Murdoch, Paul Thompson, Leo Bourgault, Bill Boyd, Alex Gray and Patsy Gallighen. Matte-finish photo was originally displayed in the Madison Square Garden's offices of Frank Boucher. In original vintage frame with finished dimensions of 25" x 31", the photograph itself measuring slightly smaller.
