Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009

The Bruins were at home to Toronto with the Leafs leading 2-1 when Eddie Shore saw the Leafs’ scoring champ Ace Bailey in his path. Catching Bailey from behind, he flipped him into the air with his shoulder. Bailey hit the ice with a dull thud and lay motionless. He hovered between life and death for several days and, although he pulled through, he never played the game again. In February of 1934, Maple Leaf Gardens hosted an exhibition game between the Leafs and a team of NHL All-Stars in benefit of Ace Bailey. The event is considered by most to be the first NHL All-Star Game. This vintage photographic display, often reproduced for publication, pictures the members of Toronto Maple Leafs posed in two neat rows. King Clancy, George Hainsworth, Hap Day, Busher Jackson, Joe Primeau, Charlie Conacher and the rest of the roster are here, each wearing a unique uniform designed especially for the event. Original 20"x30" panoramic image, mounted on heavy wood board shows its age with some toning, staining and a few small mount holes. Otherwise, in very good to excellent condition.
