Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
This unique framed studio photo shows members of the 1923 Ottawa Senators posed in civilian clothing for a group photo. This rare original photograph from the A.L. Hess studio in Calgary, Alberta is very damaged with many of the faces in the foreground and right part of the 10" x 8" image obscured. The original brown matte identifies the group as "Ottawa Senior Hockey Team 1923" and all of the players and team executives are identified at the bottom, including O’Meara, Baker, Boucher, Hitchman, Dolan, Nighbor,Pringle, Clancy, Dey, Helman, Gorman, Benedict, Gerard, Denneny and Broadbent. The gold-painted wood frame measures 16" x 14" and has screw holes in the middle of each of its four panels. While this rare studio-mounted photograph has seen much better days, it remains a vintage image of the nucleus of a team that won three straight Stanley Cups in the early-1920s as Ottawa dominated the early days of the NHL.
