The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Sensational pre-NHL and even pre-NHA relic pictures members of the 1908-09 Renfrew Creamery Kings hockey team and features a Champions notation. It was the Federal league that the club was champion of and when owner Ambrose OBrien was refused entry into the more competitive Canadian Hockey Association prior to the following season, he helped create the National Hockey Association with the Montreal Wanderers, teams from Cobalt and Haileybury and a new team in Montreal les Canadiens! Pictured in this rare card (with postcard back) is future Montreal Canadiens Hall-of-Famer Didier Pitre (second from the top on the right), along with Bobby Rowe (third from the top at the left). Its difficult to make out the players names which were added in fountain pen, but there is a Gilmour (beside Pitre) and that would be Larry Gilmour, who won the Stanley Cup with the Wanderers the previous season. An outstanding, thought-provoking piece from the dawning of professional hockey, it is in VG-EX condition with no major flaws. Superb!
