From the time he first put on a pair of skates and stepped on the ice in Stockholm as afive-year-old, Pelle Linbergh became enamored with the idea of keeping the puck out of the net. I was always the smallest kid when I grew up and with goaltenders its the same thing all over the world, Lindbergh told the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1985. The others all say, Hey, let the little guy stand in goal. But I loved it right from the start. Loved it to the point that he gladly used whatever equipment was available to use as a beginner goalie in the late-1960s and early-1970s. This rudimentary goalie mask belonged to Lindbergh and shows plenty of game use. Considering the protection it offered, or rather, the lack thereof at a size of 6 x 5, hopefully the young goalie quickly graduated to a better quality mask. This intriguing and unique bit of hockey history was obtained directly from the Lindbergh family and it comes with a signed letter of authenticity.
