An incredible find! It has been years since the hobby has seen a genuine game worn Terry Sawchuk piece, apart from the occasional stick that pops up. Record books show that Terry Sawchuk was one of the greatest goaltenders ever to play in the NHL. He saw action in 21 seasons with five different teams. His 103 career shutouts set a record that might never be broken. Terry finished his hockey career with 447 wins, a record that stood for thirty years, and he was elected into hockeys Hall of Fame one year after his untimely death in 1970. This aged, dark leather catching glove was worn by Terry Sawchuk while with the Detroit Red Wings during the early-1960s. The Spalding Super Trapper with Wrist-Lock and Easy-Flex pocket also has the Olympic Sporting Goods, Detroit supplier label and has been customized with added leather patches sewn at the wrist and knuckles. The ribbed, leather knuckle addition turns up in a number of photos from the period and this, along with additional characteristics, has been matched to three photographs that will be included with the glove. Now, to the provenance. This glove originates from the collection of Glen MacDonald, son of Parker MacDonald, a long-time NHLer and former teammate of Terry Sawchuk. A detailed letter of authenticity, signed by MacDonald, tells how he got this catcher as a gift from Terry as a child. An amazing memento from the career of the greatest goaltender of his era and a piece certainly worthy of a spot in the Hall of Fame.
