Backstopped by future Hall-of-Famer Montreal Canadiens goaltender Bill Durnan, the Kirkland Blue Devils captured Canadas Senior Hockey title in 1939-40 by beating the Calgary Stampeders in three consecutive finals games, winning 8-5, 9-1 and 7-1. Durnan then moved on to the Montreal senior Royals for three seasons before joining the Canadiens. Members of the championship squad received golden mementos like this, with Commemorating Lake Shore Blue Devils - Winners of Allan Cup - Kirkland Lake 1940 and a hockey scene on the front and no engraving or markings on the back. Also included in the lot is a 1948-49 How We Play Hockey booklet featuring bios and tips from the top stars of the game with Bill Durnan pictured top center.
