The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Legendary Montreal Canadiens general manager Frank J. Selkes book Behind the Cheering was published in 1962 and recounts, with the help of longtime friend H. Gordon Green, Mr. Selkes half century in hockey. This copy has been rendered extra special by the perfect blue ballpoint signatures on the title page, penned by Selke and members of the 1962-63 Montreal Canadiens. Coach Toe Blake and Jacques Plante autographs are one-above-the-other at the bottom of the left hand column of sigs, and just below that of captain Jean Beliveau. Fellow Hall-of-Famers to sign include Geoffrion, Richard, Moore and Johnson, the latter signing twice. Completing the signing lineup are Talbot, Provost, Backstrom, Goyette, Rousseau, Marshall, Fontinato, Gilles and J.C. Tremblay, Hicke, Gauthier and Maniago. Without its dust jacket, the 191-page book shows light handling/wear with color fading along the spine, but no major flaws. A wonderful read that was passed around and autographed by several Canadiens immortals!
