Arguably, the top NHL goalie of the 1930s, Tiny Thompson won the Vezina Trophy four times during the decade. Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1959, Thompson helped lead the Boston Bruins to their first Stanley Cup in 1929 as a rookie. He went on to claim the Vezina as the league’s top goalie in 1930, 1933, 1936 and 1938, as he has indicated on the portrait, along with his personalized signature, “To Max (sic), best wishes, C.R. Tiny Thompson, Vezina Trophy 1930-33-36-38”, which he has dated June 24, 1977 in Calgary. Signed “Mac” by the artist, this stylized likeness of Thompson, who died in 1981, was painted on 15 ½” x 13” professional illustration board and is presented in a grey matte and mounted in a 20” x 16” silver-colored metal frame.
