New York Rangers legend Ivan “Ching” Johnson personalized his signature on this fantastic original portrait of himself by artist Carleton “Mac” McDiarmid. The Hall of Fame defenceman indicated that he signed, “With Best Wishes To Mac. ‘Ching’ Johnson”, on January 15, 1978 in Takoma Park, Maryland. Johnson, who died in June 1979, is pictured with his trademark and deceptive grin as he stands ready to defend, practically daring his opponent to try and take him on. Painted on 15 ½” x 13” professional illustration board that has been signed “Mac” by the artist, this original Johnson portrait is mounted in grey matte and presented in an elegant 20” x 16” silver-colored metal frame. An original member of Rangers, the bruising defenceman celebrated two Stanley Cup titles with the Blueshirts in 1928 and 1933. A Hart Trophy runner-up to Canadiens legend Howie Morenz in 1931-32, Johnson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958.
