This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Generally acknowledged by hockey historians as one of the greatest teams of the early days of the sport, the Ottawa Senators dominated during the 1920s, winning the Stanley Cup in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927. In total, the club won the Stanley Cup eleven times, including two challenges during years it did not hold the Cup for the entire season. In 1950, Canadian sports editors selected the Ottawa Hockey Club to be Canada's greatest team in the first half of the 20th century. This pairing of postcards from the Twenties begins with a collage-style card from1919-20 depicting the stars and future Hall-of-Famers of the Stanley Cup-winning team including Clint Bendict, Frank Nighbor, Sprague Cleghorn, Cy Denneny, Eddie Gerard, George Boucher and Jack Darragh along with the remainder of the squad with the Stanley Cup perched in the center. With an undivided postcard back, this piece has a crease and a penciled 1919-20 preventing it from attaining a higher grade. The second postcard in the group pictures the 1921 team, in dapper attire, posed in front of a train as they prepare to travel for a game. Apart from penciled notations on the undivided back, this real photo postcard is in excellent condition.
