The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Members of the 20th century's first hockey dynasty pose proudly with Lord Stanley's coveted trophy on these three postcards. At that time, the Ottawa Silver Seven had been holders of the Stanley Cup for 2 years and would not surrender it until December of the following year. The famous Dawson City challenge had occurred in January of 1905, while Ottawa edged Rat Portage 2-games-to-1 in March. The trio of Hall-of-Famers standing is Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour and the great Frank McGee while team captain Harvey Pulford and fellow HOFer Alf Smith are seated in the middle. This gathering includes two of the color versions of the card, one used and another unused, and the rarerblack & white style with an unused divided postcard back. Condition varies but overall, the group remains in very good to excellent shape.
