Incredibly tantalizing group of real photo postcards will have collectors and historians in awe after we tell you the stirring details about the nine men pictured in individual studio poses. These are the players who claimed the Stanley Cup from the Montreal Wanderers in 1911 after winning the 1910-11 National Hockey Association title with a 13-3-0 record. The majority of them (7/9) also had been on Ottawa's Cup-winning team in 1910, although they had to momentarily relinquish it to the Wanderers before recapturing it.The lineup was laden with future Hall-of-Famers which included goaltender Percy LeSueur, team captain Bruce Stuart, scoring sensation Marty Walsh and a young Jack Darragh.Other names familiar to historians are Fred Lake, Bruce Ridpath, Hamby Shore, Albert "Dubby" Kerr and Alex Currie. There is only one other name, Horace Gaul, who is listed as a Stanley Cup champion who is not present here.Interesting are the messages on the backs of the cards which were all sent through the mail, but likely in letters since there are no stamps or postmarks. They are dated though, revealing that they were sent during February and early March to a certain "Miss" who lived on "Sussex St., City".French fountain pen handwriting on the back of the LeSueur card translates in part to "I believe you have seen this player in action and remember his name."Fred Lake's card reads in part "this little player on my card played a very good game Saturday night," while Dubby Kerr's card mentions "this completes your series of the Ottawa team."Sepia tone photos have outstanding clarity, giving the beholder a fantastic look at period uniforms and equipment. The Lesueur card is phenomenal!A corner crease in it is to mention, along with a couple of others with a similar corner crease.EX condition overall is how we grade these rarities.By the way, the Senators defended their Cup title twice in mid-March of 1911, defeating challengers from Galt (7-4) and Port Arthur (14-4), with Walsh scoring 10 goals in the latter contest. What a trip back in time with these dazzling, monumental finds!
