The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
A blue WHA puck highlights this lot of 35 gamers from the rogue league that competed with the NHL for players and market share throughout the 1970s. The well-worn Biltrite puck has the red WHA skating player logo screened onto the reverse of the puck, and Made in Canada in raised letters on the otherwise blank face. A screened white WHA logo appears on another blank Biltrite. There are seven Converse screened reverse pucks from 1974-75 that feature rubberized color team logos, including four from the Minnesota Fighting Saints (two variations) and three from the Chicago Cougars. Another Fighting Saints puck is a Biltrite with a screened WHA logo on the reverse, along with three from the Calgary Cowboys, two each from the Toronto Toros, New England Whalers and Vancouver Blazers, and singles from the Indianapolis Racers, Phoenix Roadrunners and Winnipeg Jets, along with a cracked and somewhat faded Quebec Nordiques gamer. Two from Houston include an Aeros puck with a blank reverse. A CCM Roadrunners puck from 1974-75 is screened in orange with the team and league logos on either side, along with a Roadrunners promotional pizza puck. A pair from the Birmingham Bulls (one blank reverse, the other a Viceroy screened with the alternate WHA logo), a Michigan Stags and three Cincinnati Singers Viceroys complete this remarkable lot of WHA pucks.
