The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Always intriguing are National Hockey League Standard Players Contracts from decades ago, especially when they include the signatures of hockey legends, combined with details of the comparatively miniscule amounts of money that star players of the day played for! This one-page, two-sided document reveals that Canadiens all-star center Henri Richard earned a base salary of $11,000 for the 1957-58 season, his third in the league. The Pocket Rocket had a productive campaign in 57-58, finishing fourth in team scoring with 68 points. Signed on the front in fountain pen by league president Clarence Campbell, the contracts reverse includes nice bold flowing blue ballpoint signatures of Canadiens president William Northey and Henri Richard, with Habs secretary Lee Dillon signing twice as witness. Dated May 22nd, 1957, the document is thus signed by three Hall-of-Famers.
