Attention-grabbing vintage jersey features wondrous chain-stitching
responsible for the “Seattle Iron Men” crest here, sewn to a red knit
durene-like jersey with an Athletic Supply Company tag half-detached
in the neck. A size 48 tag sewn to the inner right seam near the hem
includes “Spanjian – Pasadena” on one side and “Best Results by Dry
Cleaning” on the other. A blue-on-white tackle twill number “10” is
sewn onto the back. Extensive research by our consignor uncovers
Seattle wearing this style of sweater only during the 1949-50 Pacific
Coast Hockey League season, with Pete Kalapaca donning number 10 and
playing 67 games (18G, 27A, 45 Pts, 22 PIM). Light to moderate game
use to report with a 4” and a 5” run
one-beside-the-other on the left sleeve, where a nickel-size hole and
two small team repairs appear nearby at the elbow. The right sleeve
has a couple of small holes (elbow) and two runs (2”, 3”) near the
cuff. Dime and quarter-size repairs on the back are joined by a
larger one that needed material to close the gash, while a few
scrapes on the front complete the wear. Preserved in excellent
condition, this exceptional relic is a beauty to hold and behold.
