An intriguing Senior hockey memento is this 10-karat gold filled pocket watch presented to a member of the 1937-38 Flin Flon Bombers team. Lovely engraving on the Hamilton watch case reveals that the Manitoba team was champion of the Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League, while “H.M.” initials appear on both the case and the pen knife attached at the other end of the watch’s chain. Although we cannot find a roster for the ’37-38 Bombers, goaltender Harry Moroz is listed as a member of the ’38-39 Bombers. Moroz backstopped the Winnipeg Monarchs to the Memorial Cup title in 1935 and as a flying officer, lost his life in 1944 during World War II. With its original intact glass, the watch is still in its “Hamilton” presentation box and a fine piece of hockey history.
