Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Great story to go along with a cool piece of game used equipment which was obtained by our consignor at the 1977 World Ice Hockey Championships in Vienna. Canada made its return to the international hockey scene that spring as the IIHF allowed professionals to participate at the Worlds but the dates of the competition did not allow Canada to send its best NHLers. The IIHF also refused to let Canadians play without helmets so the boys had to don these Jofa helmets (with CCM decals applied). Former Cleveland Baron Ralph Klassen afterwards gave his to our consignor after applying a black marker autograph across the top, adding the “77” year. Classic flimsy Jofa helmet with Ralph’s number “14” decal on the back recalls a memorable moment in Canada’s international “career”.
