Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Great pair of vintage pins features two men who both left their mark in World Series history books. The image of Yankee legend Yogi Berra, who holds numerous Fall Classic records including most World Series games played, appears on a 1 3/4” diameter pin from a time when he was still known as “Larry”. A red, white and blue ribbon, a chain and baseball glove and ball charms are also included. A little bit soiled surface to mention and minor rust on the back, but in overall EX condition. Meanwhile a pin picturing Al (G.I.) Gionfriddo in his Montreal Royals uniform measures 1 1/4” and brings up the story of his famous catch for the Brooklyn Dodgers against the New York Yankees in game six of the 1947 World Series. Gionfriddo saved the game for the Dodgers by racing back and snagging a Joe Dimaggio smash at the fence in what was said to be one of the greatest catches in baseball history. The Yankees prevailed in game seven, but Gionfriddo’s place in history remains. Pin is in great EX+ condition with very light surface scratches to note.
