Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Montreal’s rich pre-major league baseball history is represented here with five International League (AAA) programs dating back to 1942. The longtime farm team of the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Royals included future Dodger Carl Furillo who is pictured in a team photo in the centerfold of the unscored ’42 program versus Buffalo and batting second on the lineup page and hitting .297 at the time. Also in EX condition and not scored is another wartime program with warplanes on the cover and from a 1943 game against Baltimore. A VG 1945 program versus Jersey City features a massive crowd at Delormier Stadium on the cover while a 1953 scored program (VG) from a game against Rochester includes Sandy Amoros, Don Hoak, Rocky Nelson, Dick Williams and pitcher Tommy Lasorda in the lineup, and reveals Lasorda pitched the locals to a 4-2 victory. An article with photo of Lasorda in a 1958 program was autographed by Tommy, who personalized it “To Nigel Best of luck” before penning a nice ballpoint signature. Program is missing its four-page middle section but completes a fascinating lot.
