Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Thought-provoking photos capture members of Concord, New Hampshire’s famous St. Paul’s School hockey team, one which the legendary Hobey Baker played for before entering Princeton and becoming the first great American-born hockey star and a legend in U.S. college hockey annals, not to mention his equally amazing prowess on a football field. A seven-man team is pictured sitting in the snow in one of the photos, with “SPS” and crossed hockey sticks on their sweaters, while the boys are lined up beside one of the many outdoor rinks at the school in the other. The padless pants, the lack of shin guards, the sticks with paper labels and the school buildings in the background are all intriguing to the beholder. Mounted on sturdy cardboard mats which include “The Kimball Studio” and “Concord, N.H.” on the bottom borders, the matte-finish photos measure 7” by 9” and are in nice presentable shape with no major flaws. Great images from a famous college prep school whose hockey players still compete for an award simply known as “Hobey’s Stick.”
