Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Fabulous vintage photograph pictures members of the 1940-41 Regina Rangers, who skated in the Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League and who won the Allan Cup that season, emblematic of senior hockey supremacy in Canada. In a classic straddling-the-boards pose of the day, the team includes future NHL netminder Sugar Jim Henry who would go on to win the Allan Cup with the Ottawa Commandoes two years later. After the army, Sugar Jim’s NHL duty was with the Rangers, Black Hawks and Bruins. The story is that Jim got his nickname as a baby as he had a habit of going to the neighbor’s house and dipping his pacifier in a bowl of sugar they had. This sweet(!) photo is in its original black-painted wooden frame and measures just over 8” by 13”. Like we said, sweet!
