Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Longtime New York Ranger center and German-born Walter Tkaczuk first grabbed attention as a teenager, suiting up for the OHA’s Kitchener Rangers as a 16-year old. In his final year of junior, Walt was awarded the Red Tilson Trophy. This personal silver-plated award has mostly impressive scripted engraving in the center which reads “The Globe and Mail Red Tilson Memorial Trophy – Awarded to Walter Tkaczuk – Kitchener Rangers – Voted the Most Valuable and Sportsmanlike Player in OHA Junior “A” Hockey – 1967-68.” Tkaczuk scored 93 points, 37 of them goals, in 52 games that year and the following season made his big league debut, appearing in 71 games for New York. Fabulous junior hockey memento measures 10 1/2” in diameter, was obtained directly from Walt Tkaczuk, and has been preserved in outstanding EX+ condition.
