Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
One of hockey’s early superstars, the legendary Newsy Lalonde, is pictured in his Saskatoon uniform in this 1923-24 card issued by the Paulin Chambers Company of Winnipeg. The card (#38 in the 70-card set) is in presentable “Good” condition with multiple light creases and corner/edge wear. Text on the back invites youngsters to collect the entire set and then send it in for a hockey stick, with the “pictures” to be returned as well. A scoring machine wherever his lengthy career took him, Newsy averaged better a goal a game in the NHL and the other pro leagues where he “wowed” them! After going from the Montreal Canadiens to Saskatoon for the rights to Aurele Joliat in 1922, Lalonde scored a league-high 30 goals in 29 games with the “Sheiks” in ’22-23. A true Canadian legend!
