Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Sad reminder of a tragic death was produced for Tim Horton’s funeral after the NHL legend died in a car crash in February of 1974 while returning to Buffalo after a game at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, where for some 18 seasons he carved out his place as one of hockey’s all-time greats. Four-page “program” measures 5 1/2” by 7 1/2” and was later plasticized. The interior reveals, among other things, that the service was held at Oriole-York Mills United Church in Willowdale (Ontario) and that hymns sung were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. With a snipped lower corner of pages 3-4, the keepsake is a stirring piece to hold. Horton left behind a wife and four daughters, and of course, a legacy.
