Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Classic pose of the Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens of 1930-31 captures the likes of Morenz, Joliat, Hainsworth, Lepine, Leduc, Gagnon and the Manthas as they stand proudly outside the Montreal Forum. The Habs made it two straight Cups in the spring of 1931, taking out Boston in the semi-finals and then having to rally from a 2-games-to-1 deficit to oust the Black Hawks in a best-of-five final, the great Morenz clinching it with an end-to-end solo effort in a 2-0 victory on Forum ice. Photo by “Rice” measures a little over 2” by 9 1/2” and was cut vertically down the middle at some point but displays beautifully in its antique-looking frame (7” x 14”). All those pictured are identified beneath their respective photos and their facsimile signatures are below their names. A small crease in the upper right corner detracts little from the thought-provoking treasure, a tempting must-have piece for Canadiens team photo collectors.
