Second on the all-time wins list for American-born goaltenders, John Vanbiesbrouck began his career in Manhattan and saw him spend ten (10) seasons with the Blueshirts, the team that drafted him 72nd overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, with the young goaltender winning a Vezina Trophy in 1986. Offered here, we present this stick used by JVB during the 1984-85 season, the first full year of his NHL career, in New York as a member of the Rangers. A Louisville 2625B model in a blue, red and white colour way, "Vanbiesbrouck" is stamped over the upper shaft and was partially covered by tape that has been partially cut away to reveal some of the remaining letters of his surname. Retaining its original tape jobs of white over the knob and blade, an intact accent sticker is seen over the handle where the shaft and paddle meet. Exhibiting game-wear via puck marks throughout both sides of the paddle and shaft, a break over the top edge of the paddle that appears worse on the backhand side, red post paint transfers throughout the backside of the upper shaft and puck marks over both sides of the blade tape, the forehand side of the blade tape has also been signed by approximately fourteen (14) members of the 1984-85 Rangers in red ink. Including the signatures of Herb Brooks, Barry Beck, George McPhee, Tomas Sandstrom and others, most of the signatures are hard to read due to colour bleed of the ink.
