Sporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation and King Clancy Memorial patches, forward Jeff Jackson's 1986-87 Toronto Maple Leafs game-issued jersey is a style that easily ranks among the toughest to come by and most desired styles for Leafs collectors. A blue maple leaf sits in the middle of the crown resting atop a brilliant green shamrock on the wonderfully embroidered Clancy patch on the left shoulder. The H&S patch on the right shoulder makes for a distinctive combination of patches that was only worn during the second half of the 1986-87 season. Size 50 is handwritten in blue ballpoint on the Maska fly tag in the collar, which has an “86 01” born on date tag on the verso. Customized fight strap never saw use on this beautiful and nearly pristine jersey. Addendum; The Heart and Stroke Foundation patch was never worn by the team on the blue road jerseys as the NHL disallowed that patch on the road jerseys and only allowed it for the home whites. The Clancy Memorial patch was applied on the left arm of all home and road Maple Leafs jerseys shortly after Clancy’s death on Nov 10th, 1986. The Heart and Stroke Foundation patch was applied to the right arms of the home jerseys and makes its first appearance Feb 14th, 1987 in a home game against Boston. Both the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Clancy Memorial patches are stitched in a similar way on the offered jersey with the stitching differing from the ones seen on examples of game-worn jerseys. It is unknown if the Heart and Stroke Foundation patch is original to the jersey, whether it was added later by the team or simply by a collector or if both patches were.
Jackson had 21 points in 64 games with the Maple Leafs in 1986-87 when he was traded to the New York Rangers along with a draft pick for Mark Osborne on March 5, 1987.
