Jacques Villeneuve carried the #1 for the 1998 season as a reward for being the 1997 World Champion. Jacques and the Williams team were going to try and defend the title with a new car, the Williams FW-20, and a new engine supplier Mechachrome. The chassis and engine struggled during the season and Jacques could only manage 2 podiums and a 5th place finish in the World Championship.
This Bell Dominator helmet, painted by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe, has been tagged 98-5 by the Bell trackside staff. The helmet is set up in full tobacco livery, the race radio remains intact and the drink tube has been drilled-out with the tube still attached. The helmet is in Jacques' traditional paint scheme and shows light wear inside and out and as per all of Jacques’ helmets, extra eye port foam has been added and the vents have been closed-off. Villeneuve has applied his signature to a single tear-off still attached to the visor.
Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “JV 98-5” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
