A CFL All-Star in 1961, George Brancato was a star defensive back for the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1957-63, where he also took turns on offense as a running back. Brancato began his seven-year run in Canada’s capital after spending two seasons with the NFL’s Chicago Cardinals in 1954-55 followed by his first CFL season with the Montreal Alouettes. Offered from George Brancato’s personal collection is the game-worn helmet George says he wore throughout his entire career, not just with the Rough Riders! Riddell Kra-Lite logo can be made out at the base of the outside back of the helmet under the outer layer of white paint. The outlines of the distinctive lightning bolt pattern of the early 1960s Rough Riders helmets is clear to see on both sides of the top of the helmet. George’s number “10” decals remain on each side of this vintage suspension helmet with its original face mask bar intact. Rigid and stiff canvas suspension system inside the helmet has “6 7/8” stamped on the back with a well-worn leather padding strip across the forehead. Outer coat of white paint has chipped off along the top revealing layers of red and white paint underneath. Brancato clearly got loads of use out of this vintage CFL beauty! Comes with George Brancato’s signed letter of authenticity.
