Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

The Central Red Army gave Ed Van Impe this Russian wristwatch and then the Flyers defenceman gave them something to remember him by. The mere mention of Van Impe's name conjures up the image of his devastating open-ice body check midway through the first period of Philadelphia's 1976 Super Series game. The hit flattened Valeri Kharlamov and the Russians fled to their dressing room, prompting broadcaster Bob Cole to say, "They're going home!" The Soviet wristwatch, which was gifted to all members of the Flyers, comes with a vintage 8 x 10 colour photo of Kharlamov laid out on the Spectrum ice, an original program from the January 11, 1976 exhibition game and a plaque with a metallic image of the game's scoresheet from the Flyers' 4-1 win. Comes with Ed Van Impe's signed LOA. Russian wristwatch with a black rubber wristband has a red star at 12 o’clock on the dial and a tank below it with Russian language writing on the face and the reverse, which has “U.S.S.R.” on the bottom;
Plaque measures 14” x 10” with a copy of the NHL Official Score Sheet that lists the Super Series game’s lineups, scoring, penalties, notes, including the Flyers’ record with Kate Smith singing “God Bless America” improving to 44-3-1, and Fred Shero’s quote, “We won today! And now we are on top of the mountain.”
