Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
The one and only Jacques Plante signed this painting of himself by artist Carleton "Mac" McDiarmid at Toronto's Royal York Hotel on September 13, 1978, as indicated by his personalized blue ink autograph. One of hockey's great innovators, Plante became the first goalie to popularize excursions from the net to play the puck, and he also introduced and helped develop the goal mask. This original 8” x 10” painting of the seven-time Vezina winner has been matted, and is presented on 13” x 15 ½” professional illustration board. One of hockey’s most collected and venerated players, any and all quality items of the netminder are routinely sought, especially unique, one-of-a-kind specimens. We should also note that there is a pair of 1” tears to the matting over the upper left.
