Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
First winning an Allan Cup along with HOFer “Bullet” Joe Simpson as members of the 61st Battalion in 1916, “Jocko” Anderson was later crowned a Stanley Cup champion with the Victoria Cougars in 1925. Defenceman Hugh “Muzz” Murray made a Stanley Cup appearance during the decade as well, when his Seattle Metropolitans were defeated in the 1920 final by the powerful Ottawa Senators. Both players were also members of the Calgary Tigers in 1921-22, and we have contracts from that very season for each. At 8 ½” x 14”, the single page documents call for the pair to earn salaries of $1000.00 during the three-month playing season (approx $13,408.21 in 2019 dollars), with each signing their respective contract and club president Fred Johnson signing both.
Each signature has been scripted in period fountain pen, with the contracts themselves exhibiting fold lines along with some minor age toning and a bit of creasing.
