Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
An exhaustive resource for those earlier hockey games otherwise lost to time, we have a wonderful vintage hockey scrapbook collection of 30, packed with interesting period content. Highlighted by a few earlier volumes from the teens and twenties with a strong focus on the Canadiens and Montreal hockey, the earliest scrapbook with 1914-15 content contains clippings (boxscores) from a number of lacrosse games featuring the Shamrocks and Nationals, along with NHA games starting in 1915-16. The early Habs stars of the day are pictured including Lalonde, Pitre, Malone and big bad Sprague Cleghorn, with a number of interesting and seldom seen, possibly unique images of Georges Vezina, including from earlier-on in his legendary career. There is a scrapbook containing a number of clippings of Howie Morenz at the time of his passing, again, with a number of rarely-encountered historic newsprint images of the fallen star. Other highlights include five 1950s scrapbooks dedicated to the career of Boob Boom Geoffrion, with the collection also containing a large focus on Bernard's teammates from the era including Plante, Richard, Lach, Beliveau, Harvey and many others, with a number of oversized La Presse and La Patrie images used. We also have additional newsprint team photos from assorted years, affixed premiums including Parade Sportive and more! Traditional oversized scrapbooks are present along with antique ledger books that have been utilized, with the earlier examples showing excessive wear from use including heavy toning and minor soiling, with expected spine wear/damage along with some brittle clippings/pages. Please check our online images for a more detailed analysis of the collection.
