Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A first place finish at the conclusion of the 1954-55 NHL season with only 17 losses, the Detroit Red Wings would then sweep the Leafs in the semi-finals before slipping past the Canadiens in a hard-fought 7 games to win their last Stanley Cup championship until 1997. We have a puck that was caught by an excited fan at the Olympia that very season, on Oct 30th 1954, in a contest against the Bruins. At 5 ½” in height, the puck has been encased in plastic, set on a 4 ½” x 3” x 1” marble base with green felt underside. A plaque has been affixed to the front of the puck listing the particulars including the date, score and “Caught by: Robert K. George. The puck itself shows light wear with residue along the side, most likely from tape first added to document the provenance.
