The fifth installment of the popular outdoor spectacle and occurring on the second day of January, in Philadelphia, the 2012 NHL Winter Classic pitted the hometown Flyers against the Atlantic Division rival-New York Rangers, with the Blueshirts edging out a victory in front of over 46,000 at Citizens Bank Park. This puck was used by Mike Rupp of the Rangers to notch his first of two goals in the game, at 14:51 of the second to tie the score at 2-2, with Brandon Prust and John Mitchell both assisting. Featuring a Winter Classic logo with NHL shield crest over the reverse, tape has been added along the side with the particulars handwritten including “Goal #3” (the game’s third goal) and “Rupp #1” (Mike Rupp’s first of two goals scored). A decal numbered “143626” has also been affixed to the puck, with a matching LOA to accompany along with a COR, both from MeiGray.
We should note that 18 pucks from the 2012 match (4 goal pucks and 14 game-used pucks) were handed directly from an on-ice official to an NHL/MeiGray Authentication Program director to be authenticated and labeled, including the offered example.
