This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
Colourfully bordered and condition sensitive, offered here is this near-complete assembly of the 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee hockey release that features 258 of the 264 total cards that make up the checklist. WIth cards 1 to 132 displaying a dark back and red borders, cards numbered 133 to 264 are the lighter back variation and sport green coloured edges. Missing just six (6) cards for completion, including those of 135-Esposito/Clarke LL, 136-Dryden/Esposito LL, 155, 163, 231 and 254-O'Reilly RC, for the cards that are present, the group is found to be in the overall high-grade condition state of EX to EX-MT and EX-MT to NM for their efforts. For the key cards, condition leaders include EX-MT to NM vicinity offerings of 66-Parent (60-40 centering), 72-Lafleur (60-40 centering), 81-Barber RC (60-40 centering), 132-Sittler (light wax stain on the reverse), 142-Smith RC (off-center on the reverse), 189-Horton (Slightly off-center), 202-Nystrom RC (65-35 centering) and 237-Robinson RC (tiny print dot over the top border) while slightly lesser EX-MT range examples include 30-Orr (very slight corner wear), 116-Checklist (unmarked - 80-20 centering), 120-P. Esposito (small factory print line at the top border) and 166-Schultz RC (right border wear). Also including EX to EX-MT scope cards of 17-Dionne (slight discoloration line at the left side), 50-Clarke (wax on the reverse and a very small ding at bottom left), 90-T. Esposito (tiny dings to both left side corners) and 129-Checklist (unmarked - two surface dot print marks), the notable cards are rounded out by VG-EX to EX range examples of both #70 picturing Gilbert Perreault (small crease at bottom center) and #263, the final checklist, which remains unmarked and is affected by a top left corner ding. A fantastic grouping worthy of any vintage collection, it should also be noted that for the 1st series red border cards with the dark backs, about ten (10) cards have heavy wax stains on their reverses while the 2nd series green border offerings with light backs, some show some light discolouration on their reverse sides that is worth noting for accuracy.
