Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Ed Belfour’s path to the Hockey Hall of Fame saw him wearing this 1987-89 Saginaw Hawks game-worn home jersey in the old International Hockey League before he won the Calder Trophy with the Chicago Black Hawks. With awesome chain-stitch embroidery on the team crest on the front and the crossed-tomahawks patches on each shoulder with “S” for Saginaw, it measures out what appears to have been a size 52 originally before the sides and sleeves were custom-widened, increasing the size of the jersey to approximately a 56. There is a vintage Belfour nameplate and evidence of a former nameplate and no signs of a change to the team crest or numbers. Comes with an LOA.
Game wear includes a three-inch-long team repair on the left sleeve, red paint transfer on the lower back, puck marks on the front, both sleeves and through the right side of the patch on the right shoulder, and pilling on the tails and fabric pulls. Maska Ultrafil flag tag sits in the back of the neck.
Goalie Ray Leblanc is also listed as wearing #30 & #31 for Saginaw in 1988-89.
Each side of the jersey has a 4 1/2"-wide fabric panels sewn into each side of the side seam and along the seam on the bottom of each sleeve, from the bottom of the hem and up under the arm and down to the tip of each wrist at the cuff.
