Leading the Boston Bruins in scoring in each of his first three seasons with the club, Harold Oliver had previously starred with the Calgary Tigers in the WCHL in the early-1920s, losing the 1924 Stanley Cup to Howie Morenz and the Montreal Canadiens. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo signed by the 1967 HOF inductee. At just under 8” x 10” and picturing Oliver at the old Boston Garden in his Bruins’ finery, the Selkirk native has placed a gorgeous dark blue ink signature beneath his image, and it presents beautifully. A handwritten notation over the reverse states that Hamlyn received this photo back signed in 1948. Later employed in Winnipeg with the Weights and Measures Department of the Canadian Government, Oliver passed away at 86-years-of-age, in 1985.
As mentioned, the signature is gorgeous, with the photo itself “rolled” from top to bottom, with this easily rectified by a quality framing. There is also toning, edge wear and a couple small creases, with a pair of small edge tears over the right side.
