Hall of Fame defenseman Brian Leetch was a natural choice to succeed Mark Messier as captain of the New York Rangers. Leetch demonstrated his leadership when he won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1994, contributing an incredible 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 23 playoff games as he helped bring the Stanley Cup to Manhattan for the first time in 54 years. Brian’s white mesh jersey includes the captain’s "C" on the left breast, Starter and size 54-R tagging sewn into the back of the collar and a "New York Rangers Game Jersey Set 2 1998-99 Season" patch affixed in the rear hem. The back of the jersey has a very faded, almost illegible, Leetch signature on the top area of the number "2". The jersey has four small board burns on the left sleeve and a large burn located on the left shoulder area with an additional burn noticeable of the first "E" of Leetch on the back. There are a few black stick/slash marks visible on the lower front area of the sweater and a faint black mark showing on the right sleeve. It must be noted that the jersey exhibits discoloration throughout and this is mainly noticeable on the white portions of the garment. This jersey is originally from Chris Chelios' personal collection and comes with his signed LOA with an additional LOA from the MeiGray Group along with their certificate of registration.
Styled with “Rangers” placed diagonally across the chest in dual-color drop-shadow tackle twill, the jersey has been accented with sleeve and verso numbers in matching material and his surname is arched above his number “2” on the back (no nameplate). Embroidered Starter and NHL crests are on the back bottom hem.
