Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

The dreamy thought and vision of a perfectly-centered perfect condition Mario Lemieux rookie card is prompted by this tantalizing offering, released the season after the young phenom had not disappointed during his initial NHL campaign, registering an even 100 points with a lowly Penguins team. Pittsburgh’s fortune and Mario’s performance in ensuing years went up, up to the hockey pinnacle, propelling 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee cards of the Montreal native to coveted status. The 48 packs contained in this tempting box each contain seven cards, with Al MacInnis’ rookie card, four different cards of Gretzky, a Lemieux League Leader card and the card issued following Pelle Lindbergh’s death among those involved in OPC’s 264-card set. Box bottom cards first appeared in '85-86, with Bellows, Bourque, Carpenter and Chelios featured here, although they’re partially covered by two BBCE stickers, with “tape intact” written on the larger one - that's what you like to hear/see, isn’t it?! We see a crease and wear at the boxtop’s lower front corner, with minor color loss on the front panel, along with wear at the underside’s four corners, joined by some light creasing. Also to note is the partially “popped” (jagged) die-cut section in the lid, to the right of the likeness of Pat Lafontaine’s card. All small stuff in our eyes, with big decisions to be made by those of you who would like to acquire this marvelous jackpot.
