Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Sure to be considered tantalizing by enthusiasts of unopened material is this splendid box of 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee hockey card wax packs, examined and certified unopened by the specialists at Baseball Card Exchange. Collectors would have to exchange 20 cents back in the day for a 12-card pack, with 48 packs comprising a complete wax box. The key cards over the years have been rookie cards of Hall of Famers Mark Messier, Ray Bourque and Mike Gartner, with Wayne Gretzky featured on his second-year card and five others. What a time it was, with Gretz and Mess and their young Edmonton teammates showing the talent and pizazz that would soon render the Oilers hockey’s most exciting and electrifying team. The excitement of discovering high grade star and rookie cards within this tempting brick should entice serious hobbyists, along with those who prefer admiring older unopened packs – the possibilities are numerous. Wear at the (eight) corners is to note, along with an apparent tear in the upper left corner region of the boxtop, the latter exhibiting a few light scuffs. A (split) strip of a type of white tape looks to have once sealed the booty, with BBCE’s shrink wrap now encasing it and the firm’s label and certification number on the underside. It all adds up to a marvelous, infrequent opportunity.
