Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

Raw cards look to mirror the three dozen graded examples in this classic Parkie set and we’ll start with the PSA parade. Tops at EX-MT 6 are 73-Zeidel and 99-Gardner, (8-Thompson is a BVG EX-MT 6), with one EX+ 5.5 entry; 67-Hergesheimer. Nine EX 5s are led by 13-Horton, the others being #s 45, 49, 54, 61, 68, 72, 76-Gadsby and 78, with 38-Dineen RC (Arbour photo) at VG-EX+ 4.5. Key cards slabbed VG-EX 4 are Richard, Sawchuk and Worsley RC while joining them are HOFers 11-Armstrong, 14-Flaman, 29-Geoffrion, 40-Kelly, 41-Pronovost, 59-Rayner and 92-Schmidt, as well as #s 3, 10-Nesterenko RC and 74. The Lach/Richard card is at VG+ 3.5, while Jean Beliveau’s rookie is among nine at VG 3, the same as Howe, Harvey, 56-Bathgate RC, 25-McNeil, 55-Bentley, 80-Mosienko and 91-Mackell (with bilingual bio!). Not many creases among the raw rest, dominated by VG-EX examples. Some 20 cards appear short to us, suggesting trimming. Numerous possibilities here.
We spot four cards with light glue residue on the back, not affecting the text; 20-Mazur, 31-Lach, 34-McCormack and 97-Martin, with the aforementioned “short” cards including 7-Kennedy and 57-Howell RC. There is a raw card of 91-Mackell with no bio, along with a duplicate George Armstrong card (EX), bringing the total to 102 cards.
