Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
The unique Howie Morenz, the man who in 1950 was posthumously voted hockey's outstanding player for the first half of the 20th century, appears here in a classic pose, featured on similar yet different "Ice Kings" cards, issued during the 1933-34 season by Montreal's World Wide Gum Company. One example of card #36 features write-ups on the back in both English and French and is graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA, while a scarcer version has text only in English. The latter received a "30 GOOD 2" assessment from SGC. The write-up in question mentions Morenz' Mitchell, Ontario birthplace and concludes with "Howie is one of the most colourful players on the ice to-day". To note are a few filmy blemishes affecting the SGC holder.
