First wearing his iconic and instantly recognizable Daoust skates with blue Perfecta blade holders in games during the 1980-81 NHL season, Wayne Gretzky wore this utterly rare and desirable Daoust skate with blue Perfecta blade holder in some capacity with the Edmonton Oilers in the mid-1980s with the included documents including notations that date it to the 1985-86 season. Wayne’s preferred Daoust 301 model with intact lacing and trademark blue Perfecta blade holder, the skates show just light use with some small scratches, scuffs and puck marks over the boot and blade holder as well as to the toe caps. Displaying Gretzky's "99" over the outside of the boot, the skate is missing the insole but retain the laces while the date stamp, normally seen inside the ankles on Wayne's Daoust skates, is no longer visible from repeated use with the tongues having been pushed down and bent exactly as "The Great One" did to all his skates. Also including the original steel held in place in the blade holder, the skate, according to consignor, comes from their father in-law who worked at Daoust in the era and has a notation on the interior of the ankle reading "Patin Wayne Gretzky Season 1986" penned on the inside in black ballpoint ink while a small "99" appears to have been stamped in blue as well. Reinforced on both the inside and outside of the boot, the skates comes with a handwritten note from Oilers equipment man, Barrie Stafford, on his own personal letterhead, that outlines repairs/alterations that needed to be made by Daoust for this specific skate, as well as another that once went with it and made it a pair, including that it was 1/8th" too long and that there was an area marked by chalk that was deemed too big as it would buckle to the outside. Showing some rust over the blade, the handwritten note states in black marker ink at the bottom, in a hand that is not Stafford's, that the skate is from the 1985-86 season on play. Also coming with a Daoust client sheet listing all the particulars that went into Wayne's skates, more handwritten notes pertaining to the adjustments have been penned to the reverse in blue ballpoint pen. A perfect piece for any Gretzky collector, don't miss out on this one!
